01Our story
A long-standing ambition, finally on the floor.
Chilverstone Engineering did not start as a business plan. It started as an intention held for a long time: to run a workshop where the person who quotes the job is the person who makes it, where drawings are read properly, and where a customer can ask a technical question and get a technical answer rather than a delivery date.
After [XX]+ years working in engineering — on lathes, milling machines and fabrication benches, on one-offs and on production runs — [FOUNDER NAME] established the company in 2026. The machines were specified and bought new for the business. The experience behind them was already there.
We are honest about where we are. The workshop is new, the trading history is nil, and the portfolio is being built job by job. What we bring on day one is the experience of the person standing at the machine, and a refusal to send out anything we would not be happy to put our name to.
02The founder

[FOUNDER NAME] came into engineering the usual way — learning on manual machines, then moving onto CNC, then discovering that the interesting jobs are usually the ones nobody else wants. Over [XX]+ years that has meant one-off replacement parts for machinery that no longer has spares, small batches of turned and milled components, welded frames and guards, and a good deal of reverse engineering from a worn sample.
The approach is deliberately straightforward. Read the drawing properly. Ask the awkward question before the metal is cut, not after. Work to the tolerances that actually matter, and say so if a drawing is ambiguous rather than guessing at somebody’s expense.
The company was started for a simple reason: after [XX]+ years of doing this work for other people, [FOUNDER NAME] wanted to do it under his own name, with direct contact between the workshop and the customer, and with nobody to blame but himself if a part is not right.
03How we work
Four things we will not compromise on.

Precision
Tolerances are read from the drawing, not assumed. Fits, clearances and surface finish are decided before the first cut, and measurement is part of the job rather than something done at the end.

Quality
Drawings checked before cutting, in-process checks while the job is running, and inspection before dispatch. Records are kept for every job so we can tell you exactly what was made and how it was checked.

Straight talking
If a job is outside our capability, or if a design will be difficult or expensive to machine, we will say so at quoting stage. We would rather lose an enquiry than take on work we cannot do well.

Investing in capability
Tooling, inspection equipment and machine capacity are being added as the work demands it. The list on our machinery page is a working document and will change as we grow.
04Honest
We’re new. Here’s what that means for you.
- There is no standing reputation for us to hide behind, so every single job matters to us in a way that is difficult to fake. Your first order with us is not one of a thousand; it is the one we will be judged on.
- You deal directly with [FOUNDER NAME]. The phone number and the email address on this site come straight to the workshop, not to an office.
- Initial pricing is deliberately keen while we build a portfolio. That is a real advantage for early customers, and we would rather say it plainly than pretend otherwise.
- We will say no if a job is outside our capability, our capacity or our equipment. You will get a straight answer and, where we can, a suggestion of who might help.
- Company number and VAT registration are on the footer of every page. We are a properly registered UK business, established 2026.

Drawings checked before cutting
Every drawing is read through before the job is set. Tolerances, materials, finishes and datums are confirmed, and anything ambiguous comes back to you as a question rather than a guess.

In-process checks
Critical dimensions are measured while the job is running, so a drift is caught at part three rather than at part thirty.

Inspection before dispatch
Finished parts are inspected against the drawing and the finish is checked by hand and eye before anything is packed.

Records kept per job
Set-up details and inspection results are recorded against each job, so a repeat order can be made the same way and a query can be answered with evidence.
